San Jose is across the border (from Copan Ruinas) in Guatemala. San Jose is in the diocese of Zacapa and Santo Cristo de Esquipulas.

Father Juan Maria Boxus is a Belgian priest serving in the town of Jocatan. Father Boxus explained that San Jose is one of the communities within the sprawling rural parish of San Benito, served by the Benedictines who have a monastery in Esquipulas.

Father Juan Antonio Posadas, OSB is the pastor of San Benito parish.
